Options for Treatment
Through the Tennova Heartburn Care Center, we offer a range of tests, treatments and services, including:
TIF - A transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) procedure is a minimally invasive endoscopic treatment that treats gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The procedure involves wrapping the top part of the stomach around the esophagus to reconstruct the valve that prevents acid reflux.
EndoFLIP - The EndoFLIP procedure, or endoluminal functional lumen imaging probe, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a catheter and balloon to measure the pressure and area inside a gastrointestinal organ. EndoFLIP can help diagnose gastrointestinal issues, such as difficulty swallowing, and can also be used to guide treatment.
Laparoscopic and robotic anti-reflux surgery - Commonly referred to as laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, this anti-reflux surgery involves reinforcing the "valve" between the esophagus and the stomach by wrapping the upper portion of the stomach around the lowest portion of the esophagus
Esophageal manometry testing - Esophageal manometry is a test to measure the strength and function of the esophagus (food pipe). This test can help find causes of heartburn, swallowing problems or chest pain. The test can also help plan surgery and decide if a past surgery was successful.
Hiatal hernia repair - Hiatal hernia surgery is a procedure that repairs a hiatal hernia, which is a condition where the stomach protrudes into the chest cavity. Surgery can help with persistent heartburn, acid reflux, difficulty swallowing and other upper gastrointestinal symptoms. It can also help with complications like serious inflammation or narrowing of the esophagus.
Paraesophageal hernia repair - A paraesophageal hernia repair involves restoring the normal anatomy of the esophagus and stomach by closing a defect in the diaphragm. The diaphragm is a dome-shaped muscle separating the chest and the abdomen.
EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy) - A test for doctors to see damage in the esophagus, stomach or small intestine using a small camera
Esophageal pH monitoring – A test of the amount of time acid stays in the esophagus
